Smog disaster hits London during December 1952 to March 1953 in Golden Jubilee time of Elizabeth II called killer fog. This Smoke from many resident chimneys enter like water into cold stuck in the air. The killer fog killed the people, 12000 people, most of them are child and old people by breathing issues i.e. asthma and pneumonia, damage to heart and lungs. UN controlled industry discharge stayed in the city air with smoke and domestic coal fires. This situation becomes serious when high-pressure weather system moved over London and remained for several days and this smog came close to ground level. Solar Global Data: Where to Find It ??

Image
When someone talks about renewable energy sources the first energy came into mind is solar energy. Some university students and researchers select this field for research. However two topics are mostly selected; one is solar power plant site selection and other is solar potential calculation of specific areas. The problem associated with this topic is that the students and researchers face difficulty to gain solar data . In this blog, I would like to share a data source where every student/researcher easily find the required data in GIS format. The most important thing is that this data is free of cost and anybody can download it easily . The website link is  http://globalsolaratlas.info/ The data provided on this website is provided by The World Bank Group in the form of atlas that is solar global atlas. The provided data is in two raster formats, GeoTIFF and ASCII grid having spatial resolution of 250 meters.  The following mentioned data layers are ...

Sahiwal Coal Power Plant : A Reason of Smog in Punjab

Sahiwal coal-fired power plant is a part of CPEC project. It consist of two 660 MW plants and combined installed capacity is 1320 MW. Its first unit is inaugurated on 25 th may, 2017. The plant employ 16667/tons of coal per day if it is working on it full potential. Sahiwal is a district rich in agricultural. Major crops is in districts are wheat, sugarcane, cotton, tobacco, rice, mustard seed and maize. The coal plant is at that fertile land and it cover almost 1000 acres area.  Satellite Image of 2015 Satellite image of 2017       According to the manufacturer of the Sahiwal coal power plant, there is filter installed in the plant which is capable of purifying the produced waste smoke. But the real fact is that no system is fully capable of purifying the 100% was...

This course is based upon lectures and discussion from well renowned scientist and presented by physicist, oceanographer and broadcaster Dr. Helen Czerski from University College London, remote sensing specialist Dr. Hayley Evers-King from the Plymouth Marine Laboratory, and the lead educator Dr. Mark Higgins from EUMETSAT. This free course is produced in the support of Copernicus program and run by EUMETSAT .    This course is focused on satellite remote sensing data, how to download, explore and use data from different satellite datasets, specifically Sentinel-3, Sentinel-6 and Jason-3 ocean monitoring satellites and the contributing missions providing marine data for Copernicus – such as Metop and Meteosat,  for Earth Observation.  Lead Educator Dr Mark Higgins explaining Sea Level Rise ocean circulation ...

Smog in Punjab, Its Health Issues, Government Policy and Scientific Opinions

Figure 1 : Smog at 6 th November, 2017 Smog appear as a type of air contaminated fog, smoke or haze. This word is the combination of two words smoke and fog that’s why we can say that this is smoky fog. This smog is compound of Sulphur oxide, nitrogen oxides, and carbon monoxide. Humanoid smog is the subsequent of vehicles smolder, coal burns and industrial emission that generate crop fire. Moreover these factors initiate photo-chemical reactions caused by hazardous emissions that are extremely poisonous for human health and might cause severe ailment or end up with demise. This is smog view from my office (Shaheen complex) In Los Angeles, US city the smog is the resultant of vehicle emission, industry emission (Primary emission that joins in the atmospheric pollutant with sunlight (secondary emission) and becomes smog. In the other city such as Dehli, Indian city, smog is serious dilemma due to the burning of the vestiges after the harvested wheat and other crops. ...
